Having trained as a teacher in the '90s, I had encountered his work a great deal over my career and felt constantly impressed (think you have an original thought about effective education? Dewey probably wrote about it...). However, I didn't really get to read Dewey's original works in any kind of depth until my doctoral work. Phenomenal.
