Experiential Learning #7
First events of 2024, follow ups from Civics and plugging into the world wide movement
Reminder: Moving beyond traditional placements
Our first event of 2024 digs deeper into the work/employability space to see how universities are opening up work related experiential learning opportunities to all students. We’re aiming to start with the day with students (domestic and international) on what they’re looking to get from university and their experiences (or lack of) of work based learning. This promises to set the tone for an informative and constructive day.

Follow up: Civics - learning to make a difference event
We’ve started to pull together a set of follow ups to the the Civics event, held in collaboration with the University of Westminster and National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement. In the pipeline is some research on the role of experiential learning and civic engagement in the TEF. This will set the foundations to work on how to evidence educational gain from civics work. We are also looking to pull together a couple of follow up events either as roundtables or webinars. Watch this space.
ICYMI
Cibyl published a report looking at experiences of students and graduates pursuing legal careers. A staggering 93% of trainees and newly-qualified respondents had previously had legal work experience. 67% of students with legal connections were likely to get work experience compared to 58% of students who hadn't.
