Learning in the Lab webinar: 18 April
Exploring pedagogies for learning in laboratory environments
Queen Mary University of London and IESBL are hosting a free webinar on the pedagogy of learning in the laboratory. The webinar will be on 18 April between 12-1pm.
We will delve into the concept of laboratory pedagogy – an under explored area and one vital to how we support students apply their knowledge within a laboratory environment. Our speakers, Hendra Agustin and Michael Seery, will share their expertise and insights on:
The importance of effective laboratory pedagogy in fostering a deeper understanding of scientific concepts.
Practical strategies and techniques to enhance the learning experience in a laboratory setting.
The latest developments in laboratory education.
Please do join whether you are an educator, researcher, employer or simply interested in improving science education.
Michael Seery was until recently Professor of Chemistry Education and Director of Teaching in the School of Chemistry at University of Edinburgh. His research interests are grounded in laboratory education and the role of digital education in supporting student learning, especially focussed on the research-practice interface. He was awarded the 2021 RSC Nyholm Prize for Education for his work in laboratory education and for providing leadership and support to others carrying out education research. In 2022, Michael joined Cardiff Metropolitan University as Head of Digital Learning.
Hendra Agustian is an Assistant Professor of Higher Science Education at the Department of Science Education, University of Copenhagen. He works with faculty across Science and Health to develop their pedagogies, drawing on theoretical and empirical insights from science studies, learning sciences, and curriculum development.
Dr Ruth Rose, Lecturer in Biosciences at Queen Mary, will host the session.
